La historia
Elena plans to walk home from her English class on Friday afternoon. The walk usually takes twenty minutes, and the weather is sunny when class begins. Her brother is making dinner, so Elena sends him a message: “I will be home around 6:30.” After class, she walks outside and sees dark clouds. A few minutes later, heavy rain starts. Elena does not have an umbrella because she did not expect the weather to change.
She goes back inside the school entrance and checks the bus schedule on the wall. A bus stops across the street every fifteen minutes. Elena calls her brother and says, “It is raining hard. I am going to take the bus instead.” Her brother answers, “That is a good idea. Please be careful crossing the street.” Elena waits under the covered entrance until the rain becomes a little lighter.
The bus arrives at 6:10. Elena gets on and sits near the driver. She watches the rain from the window and notices that several streets have large puddles. At 6:25, the bus stops near her apartment building. Her brother meets her at the door with an umbrella. Elena says, “Thank you for bringing this.” At home, she changes into dry clothes and helps set the table. She learns that checking the weather and carrying a small umbrella can make an unexpected change easier.
