My first shift

Omar starts his first shift at a small home supply store on Monday. His shift begins at 9:00, but he arrives at 8:45. He is wearing black pants, comfortable shoes, and the green store shirt from his manager. At the entrance, he meets Ms. Patel, the floor supervisor. She gives him a name tag and shows him where employees keep their bags.

Ms. Patel says, “Welcome, Omar. First, put these price labels on the shelves. Then, check that the boxes in aisle five are in the right place.” Omar listens carefully and writes the two tasks on a small note. He asks, “Who can help me if I have a question?”

Ms. Patel points to a woman near the register. “That is Kim. She is the cashier, and she knows the store very well.” At 10:30, Omar finishes the labels and sees one box in the wrong aisle. He checks its label before moving it. He asks Kim for help, and together they move it to aisle three. Kim explains how the aisle numbers work, and Omar feels proud after his first morning.
