La historia
Rosa needs to schedule a routine appointment at her neighborhood clinic. On Monday morning, she finds the clinic number on a card in her wallet and calls before work. A receptionist answers, “Good morning, Maple Clinic. How can I help you?” Rosa says, “Hello. I would like to make an appointment, please.” She has her calendar open because she needs a time that works with her job.
The receptionist asks for Rosa’s name and date of birth, then checks the schedule. “We have an opening on Thursday at 10:30 in the morning,” she says. Rosa works at 12:00 that day, so the time is good. She asks, “Can you please repeat the time?” The receptionist answers, “Thursday, October 8, at 10:30. Please arrive fifteen minutes early and bring your identification.”
Rosa writes the date, time, and clinic address in her notebook. Before ending the call, she says, “Thank you. I will be there at 10:15.” The receptionist says, “You’re welcome. If you need to change the appointment, please call us before Wednesday.” Rosa puts a reminder on her phone for Thursday morning. She feels prepared because she understands the appointment details and knows what to bring.
